notes

A user persona is a fictional representation of a specific type of user that a product or service is designed for, created from market research and user data. It serves to understand the needs and goals of the target human and includes information such as demographics, behavior patterns, and pain points. Creating and utilizing user personas to understand the identity and pain points of a particular group of humans allows possible manipulation or exploitation of the target human. It is worth noting that when individuals engage in the process of self-discovery and understanding their own identity, it is usually a personal journey of growth and self-acceptance. However, when applied to others, it may be used for manipulation or exploitation.

One example of manipulation through understanding the target humans can be seen in the actions of the Nazi party during World War II. The Nazis, through their understanding of the German people, were able to manipulate the public through the use of propaganda and tailored messaging. They preyed on the fears and anxieties of the German population, stoking a sense of national pride and creating a sense of unity and purpose. By understanding their target human, the Nazis were able to gain support for their ideologies and actions, even as they committed atrocities against marginalized groups.

When talking about literature, the theme of identity and self-discovery can be seen in the works of Doctor Jose Rizal, particularly in his novels “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Fili.” These novels offer a deep exploration of the Philippines during the Spanish colonization, and the struggles of the characters to understand their place in the world and their own sense of self. The characters in these novels are confronted with the harsh reality of their society where the poor, natives, and Indios were oppressed by the Spanish colonizers, the friars, and the upper-class Indios. The novels also showcase the awakening of the characters’ consciousness of their identity and their fight for freedom and self-discovery.

Similarly, in the anime series “Neon Genesis Evangelion,” the main character, Shinji Ikari, goes through an intense journey of self-discovery as he grapples with the weight of his responsibilities and the expectations placed upon him. He is a teenager who is forced to pilot a giant robot to fight against the Angels, creatures that threaten the existence of humanity. Throughout the series, Shinji struggles with his own identity, his relationship with his father, and his role as a savior. He faces his fears and insecurities and through his struggles and triumphs, he is able to come to a deeper understanding of his own identity and the role he plays in the world.
